Search Help Page

Searches are done on the entered value, and are all case insensitive. This means that upper and lower case letters are treated as equal.

A percent sign (%) can be used as a wildcard anywhere in a string. It represents one or many characters that can be anything, and still match.   For example, '%wartha' (without the quotes) will match all words ending in 'wartha'. 'Bennet%' will match all words starting in 'Bennet' (eg Bennett, Bennetts).   Please note that if doing a fuzzy search (with the Fuzzy Search box ticked), the % is taken as a normal character.

If you tick the Fuzzy Search box, then a search is done with no greater than the given number of differences between the search string and the database entry.   For example, with the fuzzy search Miss By set to 1, 'Smith' will also match 'Smyth', but not 'Smythe'. Setting the Miss By to 2 will match 'Smyth' and Smythe' (they will both match 'Smith').   Note that setting the Miss By too high will give odd results. For example, setting Miss By to 3 will allow 'John' to match 'Jane' and 'Ann'!
